CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Geto Suguru (or Suguru Geto, if you'd rather keep all names in Western order!)
CANON: Jujutsu Kaisen
CANON REFERENCE: Wiki
CANON POINT: Ch. 0.4 - right after his death.
CRAU HISTORY: n/a
AGE: 27
APPEARANCE: Suguru is a tall man (~6'1") whose notable features include his a) long, slightly spiky hair, half of which is normally pulled into a small bun, b) his ever-present bangs, and c) gauges. Clothing-wise: Monk Attire | Casual Attire
CONTRACT PAYMENT: The elimination of all non-sorcerers. 😌 Or, if that's too much to ask for: a second chance at life, so he can go back to his world and see to it himself!

QUESTIONNAIRE:

What are your greatest regrets, if you have any? What would you have done differently?

If one were to ask Suguru this question, his honest answer would be that he has no real regrets—because regrets are luxuries, in a sense? When Suguru committed to his path over a decade ago—his path, of course, being the elimination of all non-sorcerers—Suguru sacrificed many things: his standing in sorcerer society, his parents (whom he personally killed), his closest friendships. There was neither time nor reason to regret such losses; to move forward was to focus on, to find meaning in, the future he was determined to bring about, and thus that is precisely what Suguru did—and continues to do. He's doing the right thing! He knows that he's doing the right thing! Everything that has led him to this point has therefore served some greater purpose!

Now that Suguru is dead, however, some part of him will always be haunted by his final battle. He can't really see a way around it? He struck when he struck because his target was inexperienced enough to give him a fighting chance, but just experienced enough to be valuable; waiting any later would have further lowered his odds of success, and yet the concern he showed in his final moments—asking about his family's well-being while on the very brink of death—highlights his priorities. He wanted to create the perfect world for his followers; dying made that, uh, understandably difficult, even as he trusted that his followers would carry on without him. But maybe, just maybe, if he'd made different moves...

What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?

In Suguru's world, living creatures are the source of what is called cursed energy. If you're, say, particularly stressed, then you start building up more and more cursed energy—which then merges with the cursed energy of others around you, which then has a chance of solidifying into a sentient, bloodthirsty curse! Normal people can't see such curses, despite being both their direct cause and their primary target(s)? Those who can see them are known as sorcerers, and though they're relatively rare, they're expected to put their lives on the line for those who remain blissfully unaware of their existence. It's dangerous work; scores of sorcerers die while curses continue to multiply, and yet those in charge of sorcerer society see no way—no reason—to make any changes.

Suguru, however, is determined to bring an end to this cycle, because as a former sorcerer (turned outlaw), Suguru wishes to bring about a world in which sorcerers aren't obligated to risk their lives. Sorcerers, in Suguru's opinion, are the true humans; normal people are nothing but monkeys, and thus Suguru sort of views all sorcerers as his, like... extended family? Distant cousins, if you will. He doesn't want them to die, let alone for the very monkeys causing their suffering; he wants them to exist in an environment that is both monkey- and curse-free, which is why, even as he invades the sorcerers' school, he avoids killing promising students while slaughtering aides by the dozens.

That said: Suguru's true family is comprised of six sorcerers who share his vision? An inner circle, of sorts, dedicated to both Suguru's goals and Suguru himself; Suguru entrusts his most important missions to them—and Suguru genuinely cares for them. He's visibly excited when they're able to gather together; he instructs one follower to take family photos, just before stopping for a selfie with her on their way to the meeting. They're clearly more than just tools! The world Suguru is striving to bring about is more for their sakes than anyone else's, honestly, because they recognize their worth.

But when it comes to his true family, the two most important members of it are undoubtedly Nanako and Mimiko. When Suguru was but seventeen years old, he found both girls locked in a cage in some backwater village, tortured because the villagers believed the young sorcerers to be the cause of the village's misfortunes—and this caused Suguru to finally snap. He slaughtered the villagers; he abandoned sorcerer society as a whole; he took both girls (who were around five years old) under his wing, raising them on his own while crafting his overall plan. They all, for all intents and purposes, his daughters! His number one priorities. He would do anything for them, and vice-versa.

How do you define "success"? What is something you're ambitious about?

Honestly? Success, to Suguru, is wiping every non-sorcerer off the face of the earth, because Suguru's greatest ambition is to create a world in which there are no curses for sorcerers to fight. I touched on this in an earlier answer, but it's crucial to Suguru's character; like, everything that he's done—from murdering his non-sorcerer parents to releasing thousands of curses on the unsuspecting public—has been in the (single-minded) pursuit of his goal, and he will not stop until he reaches it. I mean, the man led a cult—which was, in every way, a success. With an endless stream of money and hundreds of followers willing to do his bidding, Suguru could have easily set aside his ambitions and lived out his life in comfort...

...But he didn't, and he won't. Ever. Not until his ambitions are fully realized.

What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?

Even when you look back to Suguru's student days—well before he became a villain!—Suguru's only listed hobby is martial arts? His favorite food is zaru soba; he doesn't dislike any food in particular, which paints this sort of, like. Spartan picture. He didn't—doesn't—seem the sort to indulge in much of anything; he was a very by-the-book kind of guy—except, of course, when it came to Satoru Gojo. Satoru easily provoked Suguru into fight after fight on the school grounds, which are noted as being some of the few times Suguru actually dared to break the rules; Satoru poked, and teased, and called Suguru out; Satoru provided Suguru with opportunities to have fun, even as Suguru did his best to wrangle Satoru back in line. Satoru was the ultimate diversion.

And Suguru still turned his back to Satoru for ten, long years.

Which says a lot about Suguru, in my opinion? Here was someone Suguru deeply, genuinely cared for, and though they were growing apart—though Satoru was becoming the strongest as opposed to being half of the strongest duo—they remained so close; Suguru kept thinking of Satoru right up until he decided to commit, wholeheartedly, to his chosen path, and yet Suguru ultimately left Satoru behind. The time for diversions came to an end! Suguru was hellbent on bringing about the change he wanted to see.

And even now that Suguru is a full-fledged villain, you still don't see him indulging in much of anything, aside from time with his family. He clearly enjoys their company, especially the company of his daughters; he's willing to cut a threatening visit short just to fly them to a crepe shop they're dying (re: demanding) to try, breaking his self-imposed rule to avoid monkey-owned establishments, but even this ultimately serves his goals. Keep your followers happy; keep your followers productive. It wasn't like he, himself, enjoyed a sweet.

(But he did get to make his girls happy—and that is an indulgence in and of itself.)

POWERS & ABILITIES: As one of only four (4) special grade sorcerers in his time, Suguru is no joke! But let's see here...

  • Martial Arts - He's a well-rounded fighter, familiar with various weapons + hand-to-hand combat. Reinforcing himself with Cursed Energy normally results in him being incredibly fast and resilient, but let's just say he's now... more like a normal human at the very top of their game. Olympic-level fitness!
  • Tactical Thinker - It's genuinely difficult to catch Suguru off-guard, or to throw so much at him that he can't find some way out of it. He's just good at sizing up his opponents? Plus he knows the value in subverting expectations, ie tricking someone into thinking he's a long-distance fighter when he's quite comfortable with close combat.
  • Cursed Energy - What makes a sorcerer a Sorcerer, tbh! It's what allows Suguru to exorcise curses/fight other sorcerers, and Suguru is known to have an immense amount of it. He can also cast a curtain, which is a barrier that sort of, like, hides whatever is inside from non-sorcerers? Some can even keep other sorcerers out, but that depends on their skill level v Suguru's. I'm going to say... casting a curtain will be both extremely difficult and altogether useless, given that Suguru's Cursed Energy will be at a much, much lower level than he's used to. Maybe he can cast a curtain over a very small area... but it's so weak that it disappears after, like, one person accidentally wanders through it...
  • Cursed Spirit Manipulation - Suguru has the ability to literally ingest curses? He shrinks 'em into orbs, swallows 'em whole, and is then able to summon/direct them at will. Not going to lie, gang: it's gross, but it's also very useful; at one point he even had around four thousand or so curses at his beck and call, but since he's DIED + I'm nerfing the heck out of him, here are the curses he'll be able to summon (until he regains/consumes more useful ones):
    • Caterpillar Cow - It's cute(-ish) and it can carry things and/or people.
    • Manta Ray - It's also cute(-ish), and can also carry things and/or people—while flying! Like a magic carpet...
    • Flyheads - They're just extremely weak curses Suguru uses as surveillance, aka if he sends them out and they die, something dangerous is afoot! I'll give him, like... I don't know... fifteen or so, if that's fine? They literally can't Do anything.
    • Storage Caterpillar - It's a nasty little caterpillar that a) calls Suguru "Mom" and b) can eat weapons, etc, then regurgitate them at Suguru's command.
    • Spooky Shadow - It's just a little shadow Suguru can summon from his finger, and all it can do is... whisper. It's how Suguru calmed his daughters, way back in the day! It's pure nostalgia.

SUITABILITY: Suguru isn't excited to be in hell—but Suguru will have no problem fitting into hell, given that he's literally a genocidal villain. He's committed all manner of murders, meaning that violence is, quite honestly, just a part of his day-to-day life? He's led a cult for the better part of a decade, meaning that he's down with lying, brainwashing, stealing, etc? I think the only thing Suguru will have any real issues with is the sexual content, but only in that he won't be an avid participant; like, he doesn't have a problem with it, but he just views himself as so far above others that he sprays himself with disinfectant each time a monkey dares to touch him, so. It would take some convincing!

FACTION SUITABILITY:

The Shuten Clan
  • Might Makes Right™ does appeal to Suguru, in that he believes the world belongs to—should be enjoyed by—those with the ability to take it. He wants to wipe non-sorcerers (which make up, like, a solid 97% of the population) off the map because they are too weak to solve the problems they cause; he wants a world in which the strongest only need to concern themselves with themselves. That's caring for one's community at its finest, isn't it... if one squints...
  • Suguru is, without a doubt, a strong fighter, comfortable with weapons or hand-to-hand combat. He can hold his own in all manner of situations!
  • Honestly, Suguru isn't an indulgent sort of man? And he also happens to be rather shifty, which means that he wouldn't hesitate to use his clan's Appetites and Honesty to his advantage! It could (probably would!) come back to bite him in the ass, sure, but if it means consolidating some power on the side...

The Tamamo Clan
  • I think Suguru really resonates with the idea of being true to yourself as opposed to hiding from the masses? A huge reason he clashed with sorcerer society as a whole was because it expected sorcerers to save others from the shadows; like, non-sorcerers weren't aware of the curses they caused, nor of the sorcerers dying to protect them, and that just didn't sit well with Suguru. If they're carrying the world on their backs, they at least deserve to be recognized for it!
  • Suguru also happens to be a very cunning, very insightful individual. He ran a cult for ten years, fleecing its members for all they were worth while still keeping them content enough to stick around; you can't really do that without offering "blissful delusions and indulgences of the imagination."
  • Suguru actually controlled his world's version of Tamamo no Mae, which would make becoming a part of this clan all the funnier. Justice!

The Sutoku Alliance
  • Suguru, unhinged as he seems, is honestly a fairly logical person? He doesn't go into fights without calculating his odds of winning them + pinpointing all that might help and all that might hinder. He's a planner! A schemer! The sort of person to set up certain situations (like, say, unleashing curses at a school) simply to sit back and study how others handle it, because that's the best way to learn about who you're dealing with—and how to beat them.
  • Suguru is also a bit of a scammer, given that he's, you know. A full-blown cult leader. If money is needed, he knows how to con others into handing it over—which might make him a good fit for the financial realm?
  • Suguru disguises himself as a monk, and isn't one for (most) indulgences; he'd line up fairly well with the Alliance's asceticism, and would thus be a difficult person to, say, blackmail.
  • With all of that said, however: Suguru would not vibe with the Alliance's belief that the "stronger" shouldn't lead the rest? It goes against his core principles.

The Department of the Enma
  • Order is important, to Suguru? Once upon a time, he was a very by-the-book, rule-following individual—though he's made a hobby of breaking those rules, in recent years. He would, however, respect the Department's "anything goes, if it keeps the peace" mentality. How one achieves their goal, especially if said goal is for the greater good, isn't as important as actually achieving it...
  • Justice is also important to Suguru, in that he wants to purge his world of those who have (unknowingly) taken advantage of sorcerers for centuries; like, he believes it is unjust for sorcerers to die for those who continue creating curses, hence his determination to level the playing field.
  • All of that aside, though: Suguru would have a very difficult time in this faction! He's the type of person to, say, avoid patronizing establishments owned by non-sorcerers, but he's never forced those closest to him—including his daughters—to do the same. Following rules, breaking rules—that's a personal choice! It's up to the individual to determine the meaning behind it all.
